Starting from the old town of the first village in Bizkaia with the aim of reaching one of the most emblematic peaks of Enkarterri: Mount Kolitza, crowned by the Romanesque hermitage of San Roque, built on a cliff.
879 m of Mount Kolitza offering an impressive panoramic view of Balmaseda and the neighboring valleys. The visibility of the summit and its exceptional acoustics earned it to be designated as one of the five "horn" mountains in Bizkaia. From its peak, Gernika General Meetings were called for centuries by bonfires and horn touches.
The terrain is rough and the slopes are steep, but the views more than worth the effort. Before reaching the summit, we will reach forests covered with oak and beech trees, and into places as beautiful as the Garbea mound. This peak, the easternmost of the mountains of Ordunte, was nicknamed 'The Balcony of Enkarterri' and divides the municipalities of Sodoor, Balmaseda and Artzentales.
