From Balmaseda, we will head to the summit of Kolitza, one of the five main mountains in Biscay. Its 879 m, crowned by the Ermita de San Roque Romanesque hermitage, offers us an impressive panoramic view of the valleys of the region, which more than compensates for the abrupt and steep terrain.
Once in the Kolitza, we will descend briefly before starting a new ascent to the Burgueño summit, 1044 m. We will cross forests covered with oak and beech trees, after which we will cross the Mazapando region, marked by several burial mounds dating from the Bronze Age. The Montes de Ordunte are home to the largest concentration of megalithic monuments in Biscay, and we will have the opportunity to meet some on our way.
