The waters of the Kadagua River guide us on a journey full of surprises, charming corners full of nature.
You can largely cover it by following the bidegorri (bike lane) parallel to the river, although there are small sections that you will have to leave to take the main road. The route starts from Balmaseda, the first city founded in Biscay, to cross the city of Zalla to Gueñes. Starting from the Arenatzarte Open-Air Sculpture Museum, the route begins with a continuous ascent to Amabizkar Goikoa, where it goes downhill to the city of Galladies.
Galdames and its mountainous environment have always been linked to the extraction and processing of iron ore; this activity has modified its own orography, highlighting a suggestive landscape. The most important archaeological element in the region is the Arenaza cave and its rock paintings. Arenaza is therefore the fourth cave in Biscay where you can find samples of cave art. Galdames also owns the Eskatxabel dolmen and five others located between the Pico Mayor and the Eretza.
From Galdames, and in a gentle but continuous way, you climb little by little between roads and tracks until you cross and reach the Vía Verde de los Montes de Hierro (Iron Mountains Greenway), a route along which we will continue to the city of Sodoor. This urban core represents a territory full of contrasts and which preserves a unique history, an intense past that has contributed very significantly to the development of Biscay and the Basque Country. This is where you can take a break for aerial walks through the trees in the first tree adventure park in the Basque Country. The four possible routes present different difficulties, which are indicated by the use of colors. As the difficulty increases, so does the height. A set of zip lines, bridges, aerial tunnels... are part of the adventure that can be experienced using the most efficient safety equipment.
Without leaving Vía Verde, we reach Traslaviña to leave this road for continue climbing until we reach the characteristic summit of La Garbea, from where we begin a pleasant descent marked by a magnificent landscape until we reach Balmaseda, first passing through the La Porqueriza leisure area.
