A very demanding circular route with as a reference the summit of one of the five main mountains in Biscay: Ganekogorta, with its almost 1,000 m altitude. We recommend that you challenge it on a clear day to enjoy the spectacular landscapes. It can be done in either direction.
The starting point is in the Azordaiaga district, from where we will access the road that will take us to the El Oro fountain area. Here, we will start a gradual ascent along tracks and trails to one of the entrances to Mount Zamaia, through a spectacular trail over a ridge and pasture (from where we will see the Ganekogorta). We will leave the Zamaia Cave and continue to Gonceda, without reaching the summit of both.
Under the Gonceda and at an intersection, we will continue straight on towards the ascent that will take us to the mountain range formed by the mountains Biderdi, Ganeko, Arrabatxu, Pagero and Gallarraga, in the most demanding section of the route due to its differences in altitude. It is important to face it, and to face it calmly and serene while enjoying the view.
We will approach the Pagero, continue along the entire ridge to Ganekogorta, before the summit of Arrabatxu and reach the official 998 m summit of Ganeko. It's time to enjoy the spectacular 360 degree views.
We will descend towards Pagasarri, following the usual path and passing through Mount Biderdi, paying particular attention to the descent, then we will reach the road that will take us back to Azordaiga, passing through agritourism and following the Embalse d'Artiba (reservoir) route to complete this beautiful route.
